The path is flat and lined with smooth sidewalks, allowing you to soak in stunning views of the fjord and the quaint architecture that characterizes the town.

The terminal features clean facilities, including extensive seating, public restrooms, and a small gift shop selling local crafts, trinkets, and souvenirs. If you’re in need of internet access, the free Wi-Fi is a popular feature among both visitors and crew members.

As you make your way into the heart of Skjolden, you’ll find Fjordstova, the community center and tourist information hub. Here, you can gather valuable hiking information, enjoy a cozy café, and browse local handicrafts. For those seeking a bit more activity, the center boasts an indoor swimming pool and a climbing wall, making it a great stop for families.

Local Groceries and Essentials

Adjacent to Fjordstova is the Coop Marked, the only grocery store in town. While it may not have the extensive selection of larger supermarkets, it offers all the essentials for your stay, making it a convenient stop.

Scenic Highlights and Hidden Gems

Skjolden serves as a gateway to incredible outdoor adventures, including three national parks: Jotunheimen, Jostedalsbreen, and Breheimen. While many visitors flock to these parks, the beauty of Skjolden itself shouldn't be overlooked.

One particularly stunning spot is a bench marking the end of the Sognefjord. This quiet location offers breathtaking views and a moment of peace away from the bustling tourist spots. Along the way, keep an eye out for the striking red sculpture, Jonsok, which symbolizes the bonds between Norwegians and their emigrated families in America.

Embracing the Nature

During our visit, we stumbled upon a sign pointing to Asafossen Waterfall, a mere 1.5-mile walk from town. Unfortunately, we decided to explore the town instead, but looking back, we realized we missed a spectacular natural wonder. Next time, this waterfall will be at the top of our list!

After exploring the town, we recommend taking advantage of the myriad hiking trails surrounding Skjolden. The beauty of Norway’s landscape is simply unmatched, and walking through its serene trails is an experience like no other. Whether you're an avid hiker or just looking to enjoy the outdoors, Skjolden is an excellent base for your adventures.
